Trevor Boulden serves up a soulful single, "Island Song"
On his first single of the year and second overall, Trevor Boulden’s latest titled “Island Song” is a soulful piece of art coming from an emerging artist. Please read on for a closer look into our full thoughts on the track.
Following up his 2021 debut “Dance With Me” with something even more special, Trevor Boulden has just delivered a vocally prominent song he’s called “Island Song”. Painting a picture with his inventive lyricism and cunning storytelling, he’s outdone himself on this soulful single that we’ve found to get better with each and every listen. If this is your introduction to the musician, now’s the perfect time to hop on the bandwagon as he continues to release more and more.
At just a tad under four minutes in length, Trevor immediately sets the stage with a relatively stripped back instrumentation that allows for himself to put himself first in the song. Stylistically speaking, it was the right call given his talents as a vocalist, mainly because anything extra added in could have potentially taken away from that. While the song is relatively calming in its demeanor, you can’t help but get sucked in by the story and the setting that he’s crafted. Surely this can be classified as a classic country song, but like so much coming out within the genre nowadays, he’s modernized it for today’s society.
While the instrumentation does take a back seat on purpose, there’s still plenty going on atmospherically that’s filled with embellishments and little glimmery elements that give “Island Song” an edge to it. The only song we’re able to compare it to in his discography is “Dance With Me”, but honestly, you can already feel the growth in near every facet of the song from the production to the songwriting. If this is a shift coming from Trevor Boulden, then consider us accepting it with arms wide open for a long and bright future of music. Of course we’ve also got to reiterate our sincere recommendation to give both songs a listen for all the enjoyment.
