Winchester 7 & the Runners surpass expectations on new album, “No Worse For Wear”
There’s something infectious about a record that sounds like a band having the time of its life where you can viscerally feel it! The band’s latest, “No Worse For Wear” from Winchester 7 & the Runners is exactly that. It’s a joyful, energetic listen that pulls together classic rock, indie garage energy, and it lands with a wonderfully fresh sense of fun. Believe us when we say it’s one of those albums you’re going to want to listen to untouched from beginning to end.
Sonically, this one is a slight change of pace from the band’s other releases, and it’s awesome. The band draws from indie rock with splashes of alternative, classic, and so much more coming through. This album threads and comes together in a way that feels both nostalgic and fresh. You get thrown into the mix on “Waitin’ Here For You, and from there, it’s an experience you won’t want to end.
There’s certainly a classic rock backbone running through the songs, but it’s blended with a modern edge that keeps things lively. The electric ukulele sections, vocal harmonies, and driving rhythm section give the record a bright, playful character that’s hard to resist. Some major standout tracks on that end were “The World From My Bed” and “The Way You Moved”.
With 7 songs running about 21 minutes, the album moves quickly and never wears out its welcome. Each track gets in, makes its point, and leaves you wanting the next one. It’s the kind of tight, front to back listen that’s easy to put on repeat, whether you’re doing chores or heading out for a drive. Though we’ve got a pretty significant feeling you’ll be playing the air guitar about midway through!
Even better, we also had the chance to sit down with Win for an interview about the making of the record, the production, the process behind the songs, and the influences that shaped the sound. It gave us a great window into how the band works, and it was clear the Runners never really stop creating. They’ve got plenty of new music in the works, and if this album is any indication, there’s a lot more joy coming. Truly, they never stop creating.
We’ve reviewed and interviewed the band a handful of times now, so it’s really been an absolute joy to hear the growth and experimentation in their sound. “No Worse For Wear” is a warm, energetic, and genuinely fun record. Winchester 7 & the Runners have made something that feels like a little adventure and we’re happy to come along for the ride.
