Worker & Parasite craft an expertly funky single on 2nd release, "Realpolitik"

Review by Austin Sher

Shared this past Friday on November 5th, 2020, Worker & Parasite have officially released their funky new single, “Realpolitik”. Please read along with us for our full thoughts on the track, in addition to a background on this fantastic musical project.

For those who may be unaware of their work, Worker & Parasite are an entertainment collective assembled under the auspices of party officials in late 2019 in Melbourne, Australia. The band is currently creating producing “Party  music for the proletariat, worker, & parasite function to create a better world by holding a mirror to the absurdities of late capitalism” While that statement was sent off by the band, we have to agree, they’re currently shaping a better world with their music.

Our first impressions of the track are just how new age and funky it really was. As far as influences go, we immediately thought of LCD Soundsystem, a glimmer of Prince, and reminiscent bass lines from punk rockers Parquet Courts. To say it like it is, this song is all kinds of funky and fun. It’s sure to get you up and dancing, because it definitely did for us.

We don’t know what it is about the music coming out of Australia right now, but wow, it all seems to be incredibly original and creative. The music coming from Worker & Parasite is not different in the slightest. Instead of going in the direction of just making straightforward pop music, they’re doing things different in a way that is sure to get them noticed.

Now at this point in the band’s discography, this appears to be only their 2nd single released thus far. With that being said though, we loved what we heard on “Realpolitik” so much, we had no choice but to check out the debut single, “Crisis”. No surprise in the slighted, but it rocks just as hard. Featuring inventive bass lines, abrasive vocal deliveries, and an overall upbeat dancey vibe, we have no choice but to recommend you listen to tha as well.

All together though, we mean this is in the most sincere way possible, Worker & Parasite are the real deal. We’ll without a doubt be keeping a close eye on what’s going to be released from them in the coming months or years. A full length album made of tracks just like the first two are exactly what we need in our life.

So with this all being said, what are you waiting for? Stop reading and start listening! For all things Worker & Parasite, to listen, and to keep up with all future releases and information, please check out the following links below. There’s also a music video you should be watching as well!
