Empire of the Sun Delivers a Dazzling Spectacle at Cercle Odyssey LA
Los Angeles has seen its fair share of big, bold, and boundary-pushing performances — but what went down at the LA Convention Center this past weekend wasn’t just another concert. It was an odyssey. As part of the Cercle Odyssey series — the world’s first 360-degree nomadic concert experience — Empire of the Sun took the stage (or, more accurately, the center of an otherworldly audiovisual dreamscape) and turned an already ambitious production into something transcendent.
Set within a jaw-dropping 2,300m² canvas screen, Cercle Odyssey surrounds audiences in a seamless projection dome, creating an immersive world of light, art, and sound. The LA Convention Center felt transformed into a futuristic temple, with Empire of the Sun at the helm of a voyage through shimmering synth-pop landscapes, deep grooves, and surreal, kaleidoscopic visuals.
The band leaned fully into the spectacle — their trademark elaborate costumes and masks glinting in the pulsing lights, while a sea of devoted fans surrendered themselves to the show’s full-throttle sensory immersion.
Empire of the Sun wasted no time diving into their most beloved tracks. “We Are the People,” “Walking on a Dream,” & so many more, each landed with euphoric force, elevated by dazzling visual sequences and stunning surround-sound production that made it feel as though the songs themselves were circling the room. The lasers, at times, seemed to dance to the beat, painting the inside of the dome in endless cosmic patterns.
But this wasn’t just about spectacle. There was genuine soul and connection in the performance. Luke Steele’s vocals soared, at once ethereal and raw, cutting through the digital dazzle to ground the experience in real human emotion. The set’s pacing was masterful — moments of high-energy dance-floor abandon giving way to quieter, introspective passages, each song weaving into the next like chapters of a surreal, sci-fi fairytale.
While Empire of the Sun absolutely owned their night, Cercle Odyssey is much more than a one-act experience. With a rotating lineup of global electronic and genre-bending artists performing within this immersive dome, it’s a glimpse into the future of live entertainment. The LA residency won’t last forever, and if this performance is any indication, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime spectacle that shouldn’t be missed.
Empire of the Sun at Cercle Odyssey wasn’t just a concert — it was a sensory pilgrimage, a futuristic ceremony of sound and light that left audiences reeling in the best way possible. If you’re in Los Angeles while Cercle Odyssey’s still set up shop, don’t think twice. Step inside the dome. Surrender to the journey.
