Pixies Play a Career-Spanning Set at Ohana Fest 2026
While legacy acts can easily lean heavily into the nostalgia factor, often having sets that double as both a performance and a victory lap—it was refreshing to witness Pixies approaching Ohana Fest with the same intensity that made them so influential in the first place.
Their performance never felt like a recreation of the past, as the band’s discography swayed seamlessly between moments of explosive guitar bursts and eerie restraint. Unsettling melodies made even the songs that are deemed essential pieces of rock history feel unpredictable in a live setting. The mark of a truly influential band is its ability to continue challenging, inspiring, and surprising audiences as the years progress, and it was incredible to see this band doing just that.
A festival-defining moment washed over concert-goers as Eddie Vedder emerged from the sidelines, joining the group for a performance of “Wave of Mutilation,” creating the sort of crossover that felt uniquely suited to this festival’s human-like and community-driven spirit. It felt like a rare, fleeting instance in time hearing these two unexpected yet undeniably iconic voices paired together (with the Doheny State Beach coastline surrounding us, nonetheless).
Against the ocean and amongst a crowd gathered to celebrate decades of music, the group made it clear that they still carry the same emotional weight, sense of rebellion, and willingness to embrace the unconventional that first drew listeners in and remains just as powerful today.
