Calvin Ryan leads off with "Lmk" coming from his debut album

Part of a full length record of the same name, our focus has turned to Calvin Ryan’s lead single “Lmk”, a wonderful representation of his evolving sound. Please check out our full review below, as well as an update on the artist.

Having recently covered Calvin Ryan’s collaboration single titled “Sucia” last month, we didn’t think it would be so quick that he’d turn around and deliver a full length album. Becoming quite prolific with his releases, we can now see what made that collaboration so special in that Calvin has brought such a special tone and heartfelt feeling to it all. Our focus is on the leadoff track “Lmk”, but honestly, the entirety of the record is worth your time and energy to give a spin.

Somewhere between Hip Hop and R&B with loads of acoustic instrumentation that’s packed with a chill feeling, Calvin has led off with his vocals that really serve as the focal point of the song. Written earlier in his career while he was working at Penthouse Recording Studios, it takes him back to a specific moment in time. “Lmk” is acting sort of as a time capsule for the artist specifically, but also holds plenty of relatable sentiments for all who are just discovering it now. Covering themes from fake people, mind games, and relationship struggles, he’s so delicately painted a picture within his deep lyricism for everyone to connect the dots with.

While the song isn’t quite minimalistic, it certainly has benefited from being stripped back in a way. The production keeps a simplistic beat but emphasizes the acoustic guitars and ukuleles to fully differentiate itself from songs just like it. It’s got that nice and easy going atmosphere, but the passion that exudes from Calvin’s voice is the shining moment and attractor for those experiencing his music. “Sucia” was a sonic blend of three different artists' talents, but we’re loving the real introspection and glimpse inside of the single artist. Calvin has released a bunch more music in the past, but with Lmk the record being fresh, we’re going to recommend everyone out there give that a play first before checking out more.

To do so, we’ve linked everything important below to listen, follow along, and of course to keep up with everything else on the way.
