CAFOLLA take their sound to the extreme on album, "The March Onto Forever"

Blending together decades of sound and bending genres to the extreme, CAFOLLA have more than impressed on their new record, The March Onto Forever. Please read on for a closer look into the record, in addition to a background on the band.

Currently representing the music scene in Scotland, CAFOLLA have been hard at it over the past decade, but have pivoted their sound and released something incredibly special on The March Onto Forever. Pulling from so many inspirations and influences, the record is a sonic blend of retro and cinematic elements that focuses heavily on euphoric vocal highs and inventive instrumentation. We’ve quickly come to love it and sincerely can’t wait for everyone out there to hit the play button.

On the background of the record, the band’s frontman Marco Cafolla has stated, “I wrote this record during lockdown, while I watched everyone go (relatively) mad and deal with our new reality. I wrote about what I saw outside and on social media, and how I felt about the whole situation”. Ultimately that message and sensation has translated directly into this collection of songs, but have come to be seriously relatable for all those who have gone through similar situations. Each song is of course an atmospheric wonderland of synthesizers and space-like tones, but what CAFOLLA has not skipped out on are lyrical themes that land directly.

What we instantly found and came to enjoy the most was the cohesiveness of this record and how flawlessly it flowed from one song to the next. The band clearly had a vision in mind in the production for it to feel expansive and really hone in on those dynamic ranges, but you also sort of feel like you’re on a rollercoaster ride of emotions from song to song. You get strapped in right at the beginning and the band doesn’t hesitate to throw in exotic styles to switch things up as well. As this was our introduction to CAFOLLA, we didn’t quite know what to expect, however they’ve surpassed our expectations and really delivered something that thinks outside of the box. Infusing genres from decades past is never easy, but when met with futuristic motifs, they’ve absolutely nailed it on the end result.
