Chameleous deliver a career-defining record on "Wicked Din"
There's a real difference between an album made quickly to chase a moment and one built patiently to last, and "Wicked Din" belongs firmly to the second category! This Tennessee six-piece spent a year and a half crafting their debut, and that kind of care is audible in every single track. This isn't an album that's trying to catch a trend. They’ve completely done their own thing for an album that had us rockin’ out the entire time.
Chameleous describe their sound as a blend of 70’s arena rock, psychedelia, jam band influence, and a touch of Americana swing, and "Wicked Din" wears all of those influences beautifully without ever feeling like a pastiche. For us, it’s genuinely exciting when you can’t pin a band down. One moment leans into expansive, anthemic rock, the next drifts into something more intimate and reflective, and the album moves through those shifts with real confidence. The sonic shift between the opener “I Knew” and the near 8-minute thriller “Kiss Hello” sound like two different bands. However, their signature feel runs through it perfectly to keep you glued to the next track.
A huge part of that comes down to the musicianship on display here. Every member of this band brings their absolute best, and it shows. The drum work is killer throughout, driving these songs with real energy and precision. The bass sits perfectly in the pocket, giving the whole album a rock solid foundation to build from. The electric guitar solos are a huge highlight, full of personality and just the right amount of grit when they pop up. The vocals carry a genuine passion that ties every element together. The production, the mixing, the heart, the soul, and so much more have come together to really give you that coveted album experience.
At eight songs and just under 40 minutes, "Wicked Din" is exactly the kind of complete listening experience that feels increasingly rare these days. This is a band clearly making music for people who still want to sit with a full album rather than chase a single. It has that unmistakable classic rock feel running through it, but there are plenty of modern touches woven in that keep it feeling current rather than nostalgic for its own sake. The jamminess is rather sparse, but the band knows a good breakdown when it does happen.
