Julian Drucker spans the spectrum of sound on album, "Charivari"

Breaking the mold of what we typically review, we’ve quickly fallen in love with the latest work called Charivari, created by Julian Drucker. Read on for a closer look at the album, as well as a background on this immensely talented artist.

Having grown up with two professional string players as parents and being surrounded by complex and intriguing music, it’s no wonder that Julian Drucker is excelling in his craft. Now based in Los Angeles with his hand in many pockets of the industry, his latest work is called Charivari in which he’s written it for a contemporary dance ensemble, commissioned by Dancers' Group and The Isolation Project, a composer/choreographer collective founded in response to Covid-19’s impact on the performing arts. It’s truly an immersive experience and we can’t wait for everyone out there to give it a close and focused listen.

Ranging in sound, style, genre, and truly spanning the entire spectrum of music, Julian has stopped at nothing to create legitimately one of the most ornate pieces we’ve heard. While we can only imagine its diversity was a preconceived notion, it still happens to have a cohesion from start to finish. Although each song sort of fits into a world of its own and definitely separate atmospheres, we were particularly fond of the electronic and “spacier” pieces. Nothing fell flat in the slightest, but because it’s all so varied, we confidently think that even the most amateur consumers of music could find something to rejoice in here.

Spanning 14 tracks in total, Julian really has laid it all out on the line in terms of imagination and creativity. Going forward, picking a specific genre or even a couple ideas from Charivari and crafting a record around those would be sensational. Sincerely, there’s just so many little moments or passages that stood out, we’d love to hear him go down the rabbit hole on a new production surrounding it.

With all that being said though, a final note here would be for everyone to go into this listen with an open mind and an urge for experimentation. We’ve listened a few times through and are still continuing to hear new things and find new moments to replay.
