EEP-OOP! kick down the door with exceptional debut album, “Sorry”

Seattle’s punk scene has long thrived on grit, heart, and hangovers, and EEP-OOP! embodies that spirit in its rawest form. The quintet’s debut album, Sorry, isn’t just a record, it’s a literal party that never quite cleans up after itself. Built for massive stages or even a sweaty dive bar, EEP-OOP! deliver an unapologetically messy, emotional, and irresistibly fun entry into the next generation of Pacific Northwest punk.

Unsurprisingly, the band has already become a favorite across their area, where their high-voltage sets and earnest, shout-along choruses have won over crowds one basement show at a time. With Sorry, EEP-OOP! finally bottle that chaos and charm into eight tracks of pure catharsis. It’s a raucous, melodic, and burst of youthful urgency. It’s everything that’s right about punk music in one succinct record.

Two advance singles, “Crashing and Crawling” and “Inbox,” have already set the stage for what listeners can expect. Jagged guitars, thunderous drums, and sneaky bursts of synths add a surprisingly modern twist to the band’s classic punk foundation. There’s an electric looseness to the performances like a sense that every take was recorded on the brink of breaking, but never quite does. It’s that tension, that scrappy confidence, that makes Sorry such a thrilling listen from start to finish.

Lyrically, EEP-OOP! tackle heavy themes such as anxiety, depression, or alcoholism but they never wallow. Instead, they shout it all out with a self-awareness that turns pain into camaraderie. Their songs don’t ask for pity, they invite you to sing along until your voice cracks. The result feels like the best kind of group therapy, soundtracked by distorted power chords and crashing cymbals.

Musically, the band lands somewhere between the melancholy punch of Off With Their Heads and the sunny, sardonic edge of Blink-182, especially in those guitar licks. Yet, EEP-OOP! have carved out something distinctly their own. The synth work throughout Sorry is subtle but essential, adding a hazy, dreamlike texture that softens the edges without sanding down the grit.

By the time it’s over, you’ll want to crack open another beer, hit repeat, and text your friends to come over. To be honest, that’s exactly what we did.

Punk fans everywhere should be grateful they showed up. This is a debut that has primed for hopefully a fruitful future of the band!
