EMMALISA puts her own cinematic stamp on single, "Lost in LA"
There's a real skill in taking someone else's song and making it feel like it was always meant for your voice, and that's exactly what EMMALISA accomplishes with her reimagined take on "Lost in LA”. Working alongside UK producer Lostchild, the Perth based pop artist delivers a version that feels distinctly her own, even while staying rooted in the original's atmosphere and emotional core.
Though the song wasn't written by EMMALISA herself, its themes of longing and ambition clearly struck a chord with her, and it's easy to hear why. For her, LA has always represented something bigger, transformation, chasing a dream that feels just out of reach, and that idea mirrors her own journey as a rising artist steadily building out her world. Her version holds both sides of that city in real balance, the glamour and excitement that pull people in, alongside the vulnerability of reaching for something that never quite feels within grasp.
What really stands out here is how much EMMALISA reshapes the song through her vocal performance alone. Even without penning the lyrics or melody herself, she brings a genuine sense of ownership to the track, taking some fun, unexpected detours that really cement her own interpretation! Her range shines throughout, moving comfortably between more delicate, vulnerable moments and bigger, more dramatic swells. Truly, her vocals are what hooked us!
The production only enhances that feeling. Recorded at Magic Studios in East Victoria Park, Perth, the collaboration with Lostchild results in something genuinely atmospheric and cinematic. The piano work throughout is a particular highlight! When you listen, make sure you’ve got a nice pair of headphones on to really feel the music.
Overall though, "Lost in LA" is a beautifully rendered reinterpretation, one that proves EMMALISA doesn't need to write every word herself to make a song feel completely hers.
