E.T. chooses substance over image on the soulful “Positivity Over Persona”

We’ll be completely honest, it’s been a hot minute since a hip-hop album blew us away until this one came along! It’s a lot rarer to hear an artist build an entire album around the idea of leaving the ego at the door. However, that’s exactly what Nashville’s E.T. did on “Positivity Over Persona,” that just arrived on October 16th, 2026. It’s a 20-track statement of purpose and it feels and sounds like the work of someone who put everything he has into it.

The album is rooted in classic boom-bap and soulful hip-hop, but with lyricism and storytelling at the center. The title isn’t just a clever phrase. It’s the philosophy running through the whole record. E.T. balances introspective storytelling with traditional hip-hop style, and he keeps love, authenticity, and positivity in the driver’s seat without ever sounding preachy. You get inundated on the opener “The Last Intro”, and from there, it opens up a legitimate world.

His flow is exquisite. There’s a smoothness and control to how he moves through these beats and he never seems to be chasing a trend or straining for attention. The delivery is confident and real, like he’s telling you what he actually believes. That obviously gives the lyrics real weight and it’s a big reason the record connects so easily. Some standout tracks on our end were undoubtedly “You’re A Star”, “What It Do”, and “I Wanna Make It”. With that being said though, it really is a record you can click the play button on and be entertained from beginning to end.

The production is wonderful. The sound feels classic and vintage, but there’s a modern flair that keeps it from ever sounding like a museum piece. The instrumentation is gorgeous throughout, and the piano lines really stood out to us. They add such a soul to the beats, giving the album an emotional backbone that pairs perfectly with the storytelling. The record also includes contributions from Grammy award-winning and nominated artists and producers, and a loooong list of notable features. Each guest adds something distinct, yet the album never loses its own identity. E.T. stays firmly at the heart of it.

Then there’s the length which does need to be mentioned. Twenty tracks is a lot to ask of any listener, and plenty of records that size end up sagging in the middle. This one doesn’t! There’s zero bloat and zero filler, and the album flows like a true start-to-finish experience. The pacing is thoughtful, the moods shift naturally, and every track feels like it belongs. You can sit down with it and let it carry you from beginning to end without ever reaching for the skip button. One thing we can guarantee is there’s an undeniable energy coming directly from him that lifts you up.

That’s the mark of an artist who cared about every detail. E.T. is an award-winning rapper who clearly knows the culture that shaped him. “Positivity Over Persona” is a confident and wonderfully crafted hip-hop album, one that proves substance still wins! We urge everyone out there to give it a spin and of course to follow along with the artist for more by clicking the links below. Enjoy!
