Cami Rose steps into the spotlight with her soulful, spirited self-titled EP
Cami Rose has kicked the door open with a brand new record that absolutely took us by hold on the first listen. Detroit-born country soul vocalist Cami Rose has given the world her self-titled five-song EP which is a fun, big-hearted debut that sounds like the work of someone who’s been waiting a long time to share her voice.
That voice is what drives the whole record. Cami grew up singing in church and leading worship, and you can hear that foundation in every note. There’s gospel in the way she builds a phrase, Motor City soul in her swagger, and country’s storytelling tradition in how she shapes each song. When she started pursuing music professionally, country felt like a natural fit because of her love of a good story, and that combination feels timeless while still being completely her own. It’s the kind of voice that makes you feel something before you’ve even processed the lyrics, which seems to be exactly what she’s after.
The EP leans into a nice dose of country rock, and it’s enthusiastic from the start. The opener, “Leave ’Em Stunned,” is a fun country rocker that sets the tone right away, with plenty of energy and attitude! From there, the record balances that high spirit nicely across its five tracks. It never burns too hot or settles into one mood. The pacing feels thoughtful, and each song adds another piece to a vivid portrait of her life, which gives the whole thing a personal quality.
Her influences help explain the sound. She’s drawn to artists with unmistakable voices and a lot of soul, like Patsy Cline, Etta James, Amy Winehouse, and Shania Twain. You can definitely hear echoes of that range in how she moves between grit, warmth, and playfulness. It never sounds like imitation, though. It sounds like someone who’s soaked up great singers and let them shape her own approach. Her voice is 100% unique on its own!
We also had the chance to sit down with Cami for an interview and it was a real pleasure! We talked about the making of the EP, her life in music, the production, and her process as a storyteller, and she gave us a peek at what’s on the way next. Hearing her describe the path from church choir to country stage added a lot of context to the music, and it made the songs hit even harder on a second listen.
Cami says she hopes listeners find pieces of their own story within hers and that comes through loud and clear. This EP is honest, lively, and powered by a voice that’s impossible to ignore. We can’t wait for everyone to dig in, so please, click those links below to listen in, follow along, and of course to check out our interview with the artist.
