Everything But The Everything & Olivia Barchard team up on instant classic, "Blue Sun"

Consider us beyond impressed, because the latest track “Blue Sun” from Everything But The Everything featuring Olivia Barchard is an instant classic. Read along with us as we share our complete thoughts on the single, as well as a background on the project.

Oakland producer Izzy The Gent and his Everything But The Everything project has just teamed up with San Francisco vocalist Olivia Barchard (Moon Museum, Breakdown Valentine) for an indie pop rock single titled “Blue Sun”. Considering this is the first single release of the year for the project, our immediate hopes after our initial listen was the need for more. Do not skip out on this beauty.

Before we dig on in, we got some background on the track from Izzy himself, in which he said, “Olivia and I have played shows together and shared several bills over the years in the San Francisco music scene. When I listened to Moon Museum's recent release, I was floored. I had to reach out to her and ask if she would be interested in a collaboration. She agreed, and we got to work right away."

You can’t help but smile when artists like Izzy are so impressed by other talents that a collaboration just needs to manifest itself. We’re thankful Olivia said yes, because “Blue Soon” has brought us immense amounts of joy since its release.

As for the actual music, it really has expertly blended up the best parts of “indie” music with pop overtones to it. The bass is quite prominent as expected, but the sort of grungy feel that it hones in on throughout the listen adds a much needed grit to the juxtaposition of Olivia’s light and breezy vocals. The way that she carries the song herself is otherworldly, but the production and bass wrapped it all together to really complete the package we were looking for.

Each respective artist has their own catalog of tunes, which is why we’ll without a doubt be digging in separately. As mentioned, the hope is that the track isn’t a one off, but even if it is, we’re just happy it exists. The way each member plays off each other and brings their uniqueness to just a four minute song is impressive in its own right, but really we think it’s just because they’re equally bursting in talent.

Being California natives ourselves, and not too far from San Francisco, we legitimately cannot wait until a gig is booked for either of them, because we’d love to attend. For now until that day happens, we’ll be living in the bright world of “Blue Sun” with as many streams as we can possibly fathom.
