Highland Kites release atmospheric single, "Long Road"
Released on April 21st, 2021, Highland Kites have just shared their first track of the year, “Long Road”. Please read on for our in-depth look at the newest single, in addition to a background on the band as well.
Based out of Nashville, Tennessee, Highland Kites are an indie ambient rock band that are weaving hope into dark or painful experiences. Lyrically driven music is what they’re crafting up and they’ve managed to surpass all expectations with this latest single, “Long Road”. As this was our first introduction to the band, we’ve loved what we heard and can’t wait for more.
On “Long Road” specifically, according to the band it is about “coming back to myself and learning to love the person I am”. As the instrumentation is ever present on the single, it almost takes a bit of a backseat as the vocals and complex themes show their heads the most. The ambient side of Highland Kites certainly shows itself here, but really, the delivery of each line is so emotional and powerful it’s incredibly difficult to focus on anything else.
As lovers of all things ambient and rock-oriented, Highland Kites has been a fantastic discovery for the team. This is legitimately powerful music that not only will send shivers down your spine, but force and engage the listener to break down what’s being communicated to you, as opposed to just letting the music itself slip by. We feel that this was intentional to really get the point across, but even if it wasn't, it’s much appreciated.
Without a doubt, we’re assigning ourselves some musical homework to really dig into the rest of the discography of Highland Kites because there’s no way it won’t deliver. Based on this newest single we’re blown away with the commanding power that just one three and a half minute song has packed in, so we’re excited for more.
All in all, if you’re looking for something that is genuine, features real stories, and is also pleasant to listen to, look no further because “Long Road” is the track for you.
