Kai Moa pushes boundaries on stunning EP, "Some of My Best Friends Are...Electric Sheep"
Hearing an artist throw every influence they've got into one project without a hint of restraint and the end result is something amazing..that’s when you know you’ve found someone to follow for the future. That's exactly what Kai Moa has done on his much anticipated new EP, freshly out on August 28th, 2026. Trust us when we say this is a wild, genuinely no holds barred listen. It bends genre lines so freely and became nearly impossible to pin down, but that's precisely what made it so exciting.
Across four tracks and just over twenty one minutes, Kai Moa continues doing what he's always done best, blending industrial textures with jazz, techno, and ambient influences into something that feels completely his own. The range on display here is genuinely impressive, moving from icy, mechanical soundscapes to warmer, more organic jazz inflected moments, sometimes within the very same track. You might feel like it could be scattered in less skilled hands, but Kai Moa ties it all together with a sense of intention, making the whole EP feel cohesive rather than chaotic.
The opening track “≠ What It Is” sets an incredible tone right out of the gate, even featuring a furious drum solo performed by the artist himself. It's a bold way to kick things off, but he immediately signals the kind of instrumental prowess and confidence running through the rest of the release. From there, the EP moves through an impressive array of sounds and textures, blending IDM level detail with a real sense of ambient depth. This is 100% the type of record you want to experience for the first time with a nice pair of headphones. The production is next level!
It’s also crazy just how versatile a listening experience it offers. This is music that rewards close, focused attention as it’s full of intricate layers and shifting textures worth sitting with, but it also works wonderfully as an immersive backdrop if you just want to let it wash over you. The closer 0% is some of the best production we’ve experienced this year…and that’s saying a lot.
He shows real command over the pacing throughout, knowing exactly when to push the intensity up and when to pull back and let a quieter, sleeker moment breathe. We found “(Sea)” to be a perfect example of that. The production is polished and pretty even at its most experimental.
"Some of My Best Friends Are...Electric Sheep" is an exciting listen to say the least. It’s ambitious and unafraid to chase interesting ideas across genres without ever losing its footing. Kai Moa is a boundary pushing producer and this EP is a fantastic showcase of just how far that creativity can stretch.
Obviously we’re urging everyone out there to give this one a spin and to follow along for more by clicking those links below. Enjoy!
