Lavendine outdo themselves with a lush & luminous record, "Deep Blue"

With Deep Blue, Lavendine, the Oklahoma-born sister duo of Jacy and Jana Ayers, deliver easily their most expansive and soul-stirring project to date. The nine-track, 38-minute EP marks a profound artistic leap forward. For us, it quickly became this fully realized blend of pop, country-tinged Americana, and cinematic songwriting that reflects not just musical evolution, but a deeply personal journey toward healing and courage.

Lavendine have long been known for their emotional honesty and crystalline harmonies, but Deep Blue amplifies those strengths in every direction. The project is rooted in a powerful piece of imagery where a vivid dream Jacy had of balancing on the back of a flying whale as waters rose around her. It became a metaphor for survival, transformation, and emergence, a modern echo of the biblical Jonah story. That sense of navigating darkness to reach light permeates the entire record, giving it a cohesion and emotional resonance the duo has never achieved so fully before.

Recorded at Los Angeles’ famed East West Studios, the same walls that have held everyone from The Beach Boys to The Doors, and mixed at Nashville’s Lala Mansion, Deep Blue is sonically immaculate. With a dream team of session talent behind it, including Matt Chamberlain, David Levita, and Jamie Muhoberac, the instrumentation glows with warmth and intention. Producer Mark Needham, along with co-producers Ed Seay and Brian Pruitt, shapes the EP into something both polished and deeply emotive. Every note feels placed with purpose, every musical flourish paired with a heartbeat. Listen and trust us, headphones are a must when you enjoy it!

The sound is undeniably pop forward, but it’s infused with rich, earthy undertones. You’ll experience gentle country colors, sweeping folk textures, and soft rock warmth. Guitars shimmer, pianos swell, and percussion moves with both restraint and urgency. It’s easily the most well-produced Lavendine project yet, not to discount the others in the slightest.

Vocally, Jacy and Jana reach new heights. Their voices, expressive, warm, and effortlessly mixed, become instruments of both comfort and conviction. Some personal standouts among so many had to have been “Waterless Cloud”, “I Won’t Love You”, and “Diamonds in the Sky”. Though listening from start to finish should honestly be mandatory.

The EP is undeniably optimistic, but never naïve. It acknowledges hardship, confusion, and heartbreak, and then chooses hope anyway. Tracks about letting go, rising above manipulation, returning to oneself, and reaching for brighter horizons all share a common thread. The lyricism really speaks true and is so relatable from start to finish.

Lavendine have always been earnest, but Deep Blue is something deeper. It’s their most authentic, intentional, and artistically rich work yet. In its shimmering production, heartfelt lyricism, and soaring harmonies, it reminds listeners that even in the deepest waters, there is light waiting to break the surface.
