Verticoli hit full throttle on the expansive & electric album, "Silverlinings"

After ten years of shaping their identity in the rugged rock landscape of lutruwita/Tasmania, Verticoli have delivered massively with their album, Silverlinings. Immediately it’s become this towering, high-voltage third full-length album that cements the trio as one of Australia’s most exhilarating heavy rock exports. Clocking in at 12 tracks and 43 minutes, the record is a tightly woven, heady experience that proves just how huge a three-piece can sound when every member shows up with a purpose and a vision.

Silverlinings hits with the confidence of a band who know exactly who they are. This is a heavy rock album through and through, but for us, their secret weapon was accessibility. It’s not loud just to be loud, it’s those melodies like on “Milk & Honey” or “The Seams” that had us hummin’ along. Each track bursts with melodic immediacy, punchy bass lines, and guitar riffs that manage to be both snarling and soaring. You’d think there were 5 or 6 guys in the band based on everything they’ve created here.

The vocals anchor the record (“Home” is a must listen) with a warmth and power that cut through even the densest instrumental walls. There’s grit, there’s vulnerability, and there are explosive moments when the delivery leaps from grounded to volcanic. It’s the kind of dynamic vocal performance that elevates the entire record, giving the heavy moments emotional grounding and the softer ones a sense of tension.

Instrumentally, they strike a perfectl balance between restraint and chaos. Their riffs flirt with grunge, their choruses channel alternative rock’s golden era, and yet their rhythms hit with the satisfying force of classic heavy music. Instead, Silverlinings radiates the sound of a band who’ve spent a decade honing their craft and their influences into something unmistakably their own.

In terms of the actual album experience, the songs flow into one another with intention, creating an arc of sound. The pacing feels pretty deliberate with those bursts of anthemic energy that give way to introspective moments before roaring back into full-throttle adrenaline. The song “Sleep” comes to mind before they wrap it up with “Summer”.

There’s a legitimate enthusiasm in every performance, a sense of letting go and urgency that makes it all feel alive. You can hear the angst, the joy, the sweat and all the things that make rock and roll worth caring about in the first place.

In our opinion, Verticoli have delivered their most assured and compelling work to date. It’s heavy but melodic, polished yet raw, and overall a 43 minutes you’ll want to spend your time on. Ten years in, the band sounds not like they’re slowing down, but like they’re just hitting their stride.
