Local Bylaws tease upcoming album with fiery new single, "Benton"

Jaw dropping from start to finish, Local Bylaws have just come out strong with an energetic new single titled “Benton”. We are loving this one! Keep reading for a closer look at the track, as well as a background on the band.

Currently representing the San Francisco punk scene, Local Bylaws are a female-fronted band that injected all the adrenaline in the world into their short but sweet single, “Benton”. Serving as the second single to their upcoming full length record, set for an early 2023 release, the band has completely nailed it in terms of blending together that old school gritty feel with something that leans towards modern too. Whatever label you’d like to put on it, just know that we’ve enjoyed it immensely, are eagerly urging everyone out there to give it a spin.

The band got the name initially because all their members were union workers (an actor, a carpenter, and two electricians) and have subsequently been hard at it in their music creation over the past year and a half. With a stellar EP already under their belt, we’re thrilled they’re venturing on to new horizons, all the while expanding their sound and retooling what worked so well in the past. Specifically on “Benton” though, right out of the gate the listener barely has a moment to breathe before the band jolts into it and blasts you in the face with a wall of sound. It’s exactly how we like our music, no filler whatsoever, and straight to the point in getting to the meat and potatoes of it all.

Although it only clocks in at around two minutes, so much of what we took from it was the sheer amount of ideas and motifs presented in such a short amount of time. The vocals are drenched in attitude and aggression, the instrumental section is loud and abrasive, yet the message is ultimately positive with the reverberating line “go ahead and hate me because I’m free”. We say all these things in a fully positive manner because it’s how punk should be, and as California natives ourselves, we’re proud to shine a light on rockers like this. Furthermore, they’ve got a show coming up in Santa Crazy at The Blue Lagoon with HVNTED (Los Angeles) on Friday, September 30th. If you’re in the area, you’d be a fool not to grab a ticket as soon as possible.

As we get closer to the album’s release though, it’s going to be quite the journey to see how the rest of it shapes up. We’re invested at this point, so please everyone, check out the links below to listen, follow along, and of course to stay tuned for all major news. Enjoy!
