Nocturnne goes in-depth on origins of debut, "Caroline" - Interview

Fresh off the release of her debut single, “Caroline”, we got the exciting opportunity to speak with Nocturnne and get an inside look on the creation of the track. Please watch our full interview with the artist below.

Currently based in upstate New York, Nocturnne is an emerging singer and songwriter who’s just shared an outstanding debut titled “Caroline”. Embodying all the best parts of the folk genre, she’s leaned on her dynamic vocals to create a specific vibe, all the while putting on a masterclass in songwriting and storytelling. During our extended discussion, we were able to get the full origin story on how the song came to be, a glimpse into her process, and even an outlook on all the big things we can expect to be delivered in 2023.

Taking from her incredibly eclectic taste in music, one that’s always shifting based on her history as well, “Caroline” holds the best elements of indie folk. On the background of it all, Nocturnne says, “the song is the story of a girl wandering alone in a forest and finding a spirit named Caroline. On a deeper level, Caroline is a part of all of us; the part that is connected to the earth and to nature, the part that is left when we strip away technology and social obligations”. Ultimately it’s a reminder to not lose that specific part of ourselves. While this song definitely has a ton of meaning once you begin to connect the dots, the way in which she’s served up these impassioned vocals has to be the biggest standout for us overall.

As mentioned, indie folk is one of our personal favorite genres, one that doesn’t get nearly enough love or attention. With that being said though, we can fully expect some more rock-centric tracks coming from Nocturnne in the near future. In fact, she spent some time in a rock band, which really goes to show you the immense breadth of her capabilities. With a voice like that though, we’re confident she could squeeze herself into any sound and it would turn out amazing.

With much more music and an EP slated for release in the new year, we’re urging everyone to familiarize themselves right now by clicking the links below to listen, follow along, and of course to stay up to date for all major news. Enjoy!
