You can feel weight to a song written by someone who's genuinely lived through what they're singing about and "FMU" carries that weight in every line with ease. As the second single from Ohnoah, an artist who spent years writing hits for names like Steve Aoki and Miss Montreal before finally stepping into the spotlight themselves, this track feels like a real turning point. In our opinion, it’s honest, hard won, and impossible not to sing along to as well.

"FMU" digs into some genuinely difficult territory, exploring “intoxicating love” tangled up with substance abuse and destructive patterns. It’s that painful reality of loving the very thing that's slowly poisoning you. Ohnoah handles it with real nuance though, letting the messiness of that experience come through honestly rather than smoothing it over. This track marks the second chapter in a larger series exploring what it means to be non-binary, queer, depressed, and lonely, and the hope threaded through all of it is simple but powerful. If you happen to be going through the same thing, we hope you might feel a little less alone because of it.

Knowing Ohnoah's own story makes the song hit even harder. He escaped a destructive home at just 17, growing up non-binary and queer within a culture that offered little acceptance at home or at school. Songwriting became less of an artistic choice for them and more of an actual survival tool. That history shows up all over "FMU” and we felt it was delivered with a real commitment to telling the truth, however uncomfortable it might’ve been.

Sonically, this track is a great showcase of what Ohnoah does best, bridging that gap between intimate, bedroom pop closeness and something that swells into a much bigger, stadium sized moment. Legitimately, it’s not difficult to imagine singing this back to him in a sea of people, the song is just that big. The production is excellent throughout, giving the song plenty of room to breathe in its quieter passages before opening up into a genuinely huge chorus that hits with emotional force. Ohnoah's vocals are silky smooth from start to finish, carrying all of that vulnerability with real control and warmth. The song never once loses the intimacy of the story even as the arrangement builds around them. When we say bedroom pop, we almost mean it in the sense that you feel like you’re sitting right next to him as he plays the track.

"FMU" works too because of how catchy it manages to be without ever sacrificing any depth! The song feels lighthearted, but obviously on the lyrical end, it’s not. This is a song built to stick in your head, but it's also one that clearly means something, personal and specific while still speaking to something a lot of listeners will recognize in themselves.
