Some albums are made to top charts, and some are made to preserve memory, but "Unknown Unforgotten" belongs firmly to that second more meaningful category. Bay Area producer Orlando Rocco Music's debut full length is a genuinely powerful tribute record, one built from grief but shaped into something that feels a lot more like celebration by the time it's over. At one hour and 23 tracks, he simply takes you on a lyrical and beautiful journey through many sounds.

The album is obviously quite deeply personal at its core, born out of the loss of Orlando's brother Rocco, an aspiring producer in his own right. Rather than letting that grief sit quietly in the background, Orlando brings it right to the front, honoring his brother directly with two tracks on the project, "When I Come Thur," a genuine collaboration between the two brothers, and "Rocco Party." Hearing Rocco's actual presence on the album rather than just references to him gives this record an emotional weight that's hard to shake, and it turns the whole project into something closer to a family archive than a typical debut. It’s no surprise in the slightest, but even without knowing, those would have been two of our major standout tracks!

That spirit of honoring people extends well beyond just his brother too. "Unknown Unforgotten" also pays tribute to several featured artists who have since passed away, and the whole album carries this thread of remembrance throughout, making sure their voices and contributions stay part of the story rather than fading into the background. It's a beautiful, generous way to build a debut record, less about centering himself and more about making sure the people who shaped his journey get their due.

Sonically, Orlando's production is the connective tissue holding everything together. His melodies carry a real heartfelt quality, soulful at once, giving each collaborator plenty of room to bring their own personality to the table. And the guest list here is genuinely stacked. Bay Area legends like LaRussell, Keak da Sneak, Mistah F.A.B., San Quinn, and Wanda Gonzalez sit alongside rising names like Jamel Griot, GetItDmac, Malachi, and Stunnaman02, creating a real cross generational snapshot of the region's talent. That range never feels disjointed either, since Orlando's production has a consistent enough identity to tie every guest spot back to the same emotional core.

It’s surely a Hip Hop record in its own right, but the album holds so many different sounds and sub-genres. You’d also think that at 23 tracks it could potentially feel bloated, but that is not the case whatsoever. You get sucked into the deep end of these meaningful and moving songs, swiftly traversing emotions as it goes on.

The title itself says so much about what this project is really trying to do. Orlando might be unknown to listeners, but this album makes clear he's committed to ensuring the people around him never are. If this is your introduction to the artist, you’ve discovered him at the best time. Combined with the recent Netflix placement of his instrumental track "My Type," it's clear Orlando Rocco Music's sound is starting to reach further than the Bay Area alone. "Unknown Unforgotten" is a heartfelt, community driven debut, and a genuinely touching way to introduce himself to the world.
