Paul Frazer Clarke’s “Cloud To Cloud” is a masterclass in atmosphere

Speaking as honestly as possible, it is not often a song hits as hard as it does purely on a first listen. Paul Frazer Clarke’s “Cloud To Cloud” did exactly that and we can virtually guarantee you’re going to vibe with it. This serves as the opening chapter of his ambitious Five Coordinates project, a five-part EP series featuring international collaborators throughout 2026. This single is an immersive listening experience that shows off exactly what can happen when exceptional songwriting, world-class production, and a distinctive vocal performance align perfectly.

Written and produced by the Perth-based composer and producer, “Cloud To Cloud” immediately lets you know it’s something special. From its opening moments, the track wraps you in a warm, expansive soundscape that feels entirely comforting. Clarke's decades of experience are evident throughout every second of the production. With a career spanning more than 35 years, including work with Epic Records and placements across major media, he understands how to build atmosphere with patience.

The result is a generally downtempo composition that feels effortless on the surface while revealing astonishing complexity underneath. The production deserves all the praise in the world! There is an undeniable resemblance to the lush sonic world of Air's Moon Safari, especially in the way Clarke layers textures and allows space to become an instrument in itself. Yet, "Cloud To Cloud" never feels derivative. It channels that same sense of elegance and sophistication while carving out its own identity. Every little synth flourish, odd texture, or subtle rhythm feels meticulously placed. Listening through headphones is almost mandatory, there’s genuinely so much you could miss otherwise.

Equally captivating is the contribution from the Dutch vocalist Tara Pasveer. Her voice is the centerpiece of the track, floating gracefully through the song with a quality that feels both ethereal and angelic. Her performance embodies the song's central theme of drifting through life free from expectation or constraint. We sincerely hung on every single one of her words.

Rather than dominating the arrangement, Pasveer becomes part of its fabric. Her vocals weave through the production like another instrument. Where sooo many songs strive for dramatic statements, "Cloud To Cloud" finds power in the surrender, embracing uncertainty without demanding answers.

As the opening track in the aforementioned Five Coordinates series, "Cloud To Cloud" has set an extraordinarily high standard for what’s going to follow. It’s a song built on atmosphere, craftsmanship, and subtlety, executed with remarkable confidence.

Paul Frazer Clarke has crushed it to say the bare minimum. This is exactly the kind of song that doesn't simply play in the background, it surrounds you, inviting you back again and again to uncover its many hidden treasures.
