Paul Frazer Clarke & Theia craft a dreamy standout in "Perfect Stranger"
It’s hard to say we’re surprised at this point because it feels like everything this artist has done has so quickly got stuck in our head in the best way immediately. This one feels completely effortless while clearly being the product of meticulous craft and the latest, "Perfect Stranger", pulls that off beautifully. As the third release from Paul Frazer Clarke's Five Coordinates EP, this track might just be our favorite of the whole rollout so far, and that's saying a lot given how strong the singles leading up to it have been.
For those unfamiliar, Clarke, a Perth based composer and producer with over 35 years of experience, brings that seasoned touch to every layer of this song. The instrumentation here is a really cool blend of relaxed acoustic guitar, a mellow but minor throwback hip-hop groove, subtle piano, and an R&B tinged drum loop all folding together into something that feels warm and unhurried. It's the kind of production that rewards close listening but works just as well as background atmosphere. It’s dreamy and immersive in the best possible way.
Joining Clarke on vocals is LA based artist Theia, who brings over 12 million independent streams to this collaboration, and her performance here is genuinely incredible. There's a real intimacy in how she delivers these lyrics, which tackle that disorienting, almost helpless feeling of falling for someone before you've even fully processed it yourself, being pulled into someone's orbit and stuck in their gravity before you know what's happening. Her voice is divine, angelic, ethereal, literally all the describers that made our spine tingle when she first entered the mix.
What really stands out is just how immaculate the production feels throughout. Every element here has clearly been placed with real intention, nothing crowds anything else, and the whole arrangement breathes in a way that lets both the instrumentation and Theia's vocals shine without ever competing. Again, we’re not surprised, because that’s clearly Paul’s specialty in putting something so crisp and beautiful together.
"Perfect Stranger" is a perfect song. It lingers well after it ends and it's a wonderful showcase of what happens when two talented artists bring out the best in each other. Between Clarke's flawless production instincts and Theia's stunning vocal performance, this track sets a really high bar for the rest of the Five Coordinates EP.
