PROJECT: Beyond unleash a genre-defying whirlwind with "The End"
The absolute thrill in hearing a band throw a bunch of different ideas into one song and somehow making it all work is so beyond risky. However, "The End" from PROJECT: Beyond makes it work on a song that literally made the hair on our arms stand up. This Bergen, Norway based DIY alternative pop-rock outfit has built something genuinely powerful here, a track that refuses to sit still and rewards you for staying along for the ride.
Formed in 2021 by Johann Kjørsvik Lothe and Stefan Åsheim, PROJECT: Beyond has always defined itself more by approach than genre, rooting their sound in organic rock while shaping it through modern pop and indie production. "The End" is a perfect example of that philosophy in action. This track is a whirlwind to say the least, moving through different sounds, styles, and ideas within a single song. But rather than feeling scattered, it comes together into something that feels so fresh and they think outside the box too.
Thematically, the song digs into the idea that “nothing exists in isolation”. People leave, moments pass, and things inevitably change, but what's gone still shapes who we become and what's possible moving forward. We even felt that the music mirrored that idea beautifully, shifting between intensity and sometimes more quieter or contemplative moments throughout its roughly four and a half minute runtime. That structural unpredictability keeps the whole song feeling alive. You’ll be on the edge of your seat waiting for what happens next, truly.
The instrumentation here is massive, full of soaring guitars and huge, driving drums that give the track an immense power. It's hard rock at its core, but there's a clear indie sensibility running underneath that keeps things melodic. The vocals match that intensity too, incredibly passionate and raw. Though there are some well timed screams that somehow up that intensity in a way that can only be explained by actually listening.
