Sentient Robot debut their single and music video for 80's inspired single, "From The Outset (Your Own Way)"

Released this morning on September 18th, 2020, Sentient Robot have put forth their fifth single, titled “From The Outset (Your Own Way)”. We loved it! Do yourselves a favor and read along with us for our full review of the track, in addition to a bit of background on the band as well.
Based out of Manchester, England, Sentient Robot are a 5 piece band who have spent much of their time in the studio since forming back in 2018. The members consist of songwriters Nat O'Brien (lead singer) and Steve Marsden (Guitarist and Producer) who are joined live and on this recording by drummer Pete Marshall (Paul Heaton & Jacqui Abbott/Liam Frost and the Slowdown Family), Sam Morris on bass (Alfie/Bleep Seals/Marillion) and for live gigs by Andrew Stewardson on keys (The Mock Turtles).
As far as musical influences are concerned, the band gets inspired by the likes of David Bowie, Talking Heads, LCD Soundsystem, Teleman, REM, Yacht, and The War on Drugs. We have to say though that before knowing their influences, this particular single was highly reminiscent of Talking Heads and The War on Drugs. The vocals specifically and the way that the song was carried instrumentally really merged two unlikely bands for an overall highly enjoyable track.
While we don’t want to give away too much, because we’d prefer you listened and watched the music video, the song is light-hearted, but has that classic and funky feel to it. While Nat tells the stories through his compelling lyricism, the entire backing band is staying loose by keeping things interesting in terms of sound and atmosphere. Every member of the band plays their part and brings their own unique flavor to the mix. While we loved what we heard overall, what sold us was the inclusion of the saxophone at the end to really tie things together; a job well done.
As this was our first listen into Sentient Robot, we can confidently say that we’ll be back for more. Now’s about the time where we’ll let you know to stop reading and start listening!
