SI-KEY strips it all back on a deeply personal EP, "The Colours"
There’s a certain kind of honesty that’s so unbelievably difficult and just can’t be manufactured in a studio. It can’t be polished into existence with expensive equipment or perfected through endless takes. It comes out when an artist has something genuine to say and chooses to say it exactly as they feel it. That honesty radiates from every second of The Colours, the deeply personal and emotional new EP from Telford songwriter, SI-KEY.
Freshly released on June 9th, 2026, The Colours is a three-song collection born from a period of profound personal hardship. Written and recorded during a time when SI-KEY felt he had lost nearly everything, the EP transforms that pain into connection, creating a super profound listening experience that feels intimate while speaking to universal human experiences. Honestly, we think anyone would be able to relate. Rather than dwelling solely in despair though, we felt these songs searched for meaning, compassion, and hope.
The arrangements are primarily built around acoustic guitar and his vocals, leaving nowhere to hide and no distractions from the core of the songs. Yet that minimalism becomes one of the EP’s greatest strengths. Every chord, every lyric, and every vocal inflection carries weight because there is nothing competing for the listener’s attention. The DIY aspect of the whole record gives you no choice but to listen closely.
The production is intentionally understated and we wouldn’t want it any other way. Recorded in his spare room using basic methods, including vocals captured through a phone app with headphones, the EP could easily have felt limited by its constraints. Instead, those limitations became part of its charm. The recordings possess an authenticity that larger productions often struggle to achieve. Genuinely it’s as if SI-KEY is performing these songs in the room beside you.
Vocally, he crushed it. Rather than chasing “perfection”, he prioritizes getting those words out in a way that just makes you feel. There’s no dumb overproduction or hiding behind a vocoder for example, you get him in his rawest form.
At just three songs, The Colours may be brief, but its impact lingers long after it ends. He’s crafted an EP that proves powerful music doesn’t require a million dollar studio. Sometimes all it takes is a voice, a guitar, and the courage to hit the record button! We urge you all to listen in, follow along, and of course to stay tuned for plenty more in the works.
