The New Citizen Kane shatters boundaries on "PSYCHEDELIKA Pt.1"
With PSYCHEDELIKA Pt.1, The New Citizen Kane delivers an actual fever-dream of a record. Immediately it’s an all-consuming, kaleidoscopic experience that feels less like an album and more like a transmission from another dimension. It’s the first installment of his “master project”, a sprawling visual and sonic universe built entirely by his own hands. No collaborators. No filters. Every synth, cinematic frame, and every fracture of emotion comes directly from the source: Kane Michael Luke, the London-based singer, songwriter, producer, and visual artist. We’ve reviewed him many times in the past, and not to discount that past, but this is next level.
This is The New Citizen Kane at full power. PSYCHEDELIKA Pt.1 expands his artistry into a bolder, sharper, and more fearless form. These songs aren’t just your average songs, they’re entries ripped straight from a psychedelic diary, then dressed in electropop that spirals, surges, and sweeps you into its pull. Kane called this project a “kaleidoscopic look at life through an unfiltered lens,” and that promise holds true in every moment. The emotional stakes are high, but the production is even higher.
We need to talk about it, because that production is enormous. The mixes are towering, saturated with explosive synths that hit like strobe lights, yet are never overbearing in the slightest. This is electropop pushed to the edge of psychedelia. It’s music built for losing yourself on a dance floor or inside your own head. The beats pulse, while the atmospheres dissolve and reassemble around Kane’s voice, which delivers some of his strongest performances to date. His vocals remain the guiding force and sort of act as an anchor to bring you back to reality at points.
He isn’t chasing trends or trying to recreate past sounds. He’s building his own world, one where introspection, euphoria, heartbreak, and self-discovery all swirl together in technicolor. This record feels like his magnum opus so far, which is about the highest praise you can give. As for the future of a Pt. 2, we’ll worry about that when the time comes, because now we’ll be enjoying this for all it offers.
