The Nightshift Cashier teases debut EP with new single, "Burger, Midnight"

Giving us a taste of what’s to come off of his upcoming EP, The Nightshift Cashier has just served up a seriously fantastic single, “Burger, Midnight”. Please keep reading for an in-depth look at the track, as well as a background on the artist.

From the mind of producer Bud Wilkins comes his solo project that he aptly titled The Nightshift Cashier. Currently representing the music scene in Melbourne, Australia, Bud is crafting together an inspired mix of yacht rock and nighttime tunes that span decades of sound, style, and genre. With a debut EP on the way, we’ve got a glimpse of what’s to come, and we can confidently say right now that we’re sincerely looking forward to more. Without a doubt, we’re highly recommending everyone hit the play button here as soon as possible.

While the artist is certainly pulling influence from classic acts like Toto or Steely Dan, there’s a massive amount of originality and freshness coursing throughout the entirety of “Burger, Midnight”. Immediately, it has a truly laidback and calming effect about it partially due to Bud’s demeanor within his vocals, however the instrumental he’s created put the groove right at the forefront. You’re also hit with this nostalgic feeling and even a bit of introspection because of the song’s mood and atmosphere, but by the end of it that became a major unexpected highlight.

Lyrically speaking though, the song delves into the “tale of a runaway musician couple who come across some money, and do what anyone would - open a burger store”. You probably could’ve figured it out from context clues within the song’s imagery-filled lyricism, but it just goes to show that no part of this song was lacking in the creative department. The world has too many love or breakup songs, so it’s about time artists out there devoted themselves to creating honestly unique sentiments like this one. For us, this is about as well rounded as you can get it when it comes to a song nowadays. It’s fueled our hype for the rest of the EP to be released, but if you’re unfamiliar with The Nightshift Cashier’s music as of now, dive in headfirst with a listen of this.
