The Trusted pivot their sound on explosive new single, "Terrible Fight"

Kicking off their 2023 with a simply electrifying new single, The Trusted’s latest offering “Terrible Fight” is 100% worth your time and energy to check out. Keep reading as we give our in-depth review on the track, as well as a background on this emerging band.

Made up of Dave Batchelor, Dale Holt-Mead, Fin Cunningham and Tom Cunningham, The Trusted are a Southend-on-Sea-based group that are cranking out music that fully spans the spectrum of sound. While they’ve certainly tailored their latest “Terrible Fight” more towards the pop side of things, there’s still seemingly infinite influences and styles that are intertwined throughout this eclectic sound. If this happens to be your introduction to their music, we can think of no better jumping off point for exploration than here.

Bursting with energy more towards the latter half, The Trusted have really outdone themselves on the composition side of things here. Buzzing with reverberating synthesizers that set the tone right from the start, there’s tons of elements floating in “Terrible Fight” that thankfully break the mold from what most would consider to be a straightforward pop track. Although there’s tons of catchy sensibilities in the vocals, basically urging the listener to sing along at points, we experienced a ton of maturity in the lyricism and themes being covered too. On the background of it all, the band has said there’s a “serious message about the importance of picking yourself up and moving forward, despite being set against what seems like overwhelming odds”. In a world as crazy as today’s, it’s reminders like this that nothing is ever fully out of reach.

The band said that it themselves, but it’s easily the most pop-forward thing they’ve released so far. In our eyes and ears, there’s never anything wrong with that as long as it’s tastefully done, which is exactly what this song has proven time and time again through our many listens. You can take a listen for yourselves through the rest of their back catalog, but truly there’s a vision in place here that you can feel was accomplished in the futuristic production and further elevation of these crisp instrumentals. As this is their first single release of the year, we’re over here crossing our fingers that more is on the way!
