Until They Burn Me get real on addiction-themed single, "Addict"

Believe us when we say there’s something seriously cathartic about a song that doesn't try to soften the messy or contradictory feelings around addiction. "Addict" leans fully into that complexity in a such a real way. Up-tempo, aggressive, and loud, this track from Until They Burn Me captures that push and pull we all know too well, how you can love the very thing you also hate, and it does it while wrapping that message in a sound built to hit hard.

Cody Carlyle and Travis Jordan have been making music together for more than 30 years, going all the way back to their time in The Dry Season. While this particular iteration of their partnership officially came together in 2021, that decades deep chemistry is all over this track. Their broader catalog spans everything from Americana and old timey murder ballads to punk, punkgrass, and darker-tinged country, but "Addict" narrows its focus. It leans primarily into garage rock and hard rock and the end result is sweet!

The heavy vocals throughout give the song a real sense of urgency, matching the aggression baked into the subject matter without ever tipping into excess. There's genuine craft in the lyrics too, relatable in a way that doesn't require you to have wrestled with addiction directly to feel the weight behind every line. In our opinion, this is the type of songwriting that speaks to those universal or complicated relationships we all have with the things that hurt us.

Musically, this track has a real throwback energy running through it. If you grew up on 80s and 90s rock, the band (and us) know you’re going to love it. There's plenty of nostalgia baked into the DNA of this song, but it never feels like a pure retread. Instead, it channels that era's raw energy into something that still sounds vital. The guitar work is a major highlight, with solos that add a major punch and personality without overstaying their welcome. It’s heavy don’t get us wrong, but also quite accessible.

At three and a half minutes, "Addict" moves with purpose, never padding itself out and never losing momentum. It welcomes in listeners who might not usually gravitate toward heavier music while still satisfying longtime fans of the genre. If there was ever a place to begin your “rock” journey, this would be it!

It's aggressive, honest, and full of that classic rock throwback spirit, and it makes for a memorable and cathartic. You’ve got to give it a spin. So please, click those links below to listen in, follow along, and of course to stay tuned for more in the works from the duo.
