Gunshots or Fireworks ignite with the explosive energy of "Open Mic"
Right from the opening moments, there’s a definite electricity running through "Open Mic” that only gets better! Arizona alternative rock outfit Gunshots or Fireworks have crafted something genuinely exciting here, a rock-forward, indie leaning cut that feels built for shouting along in a packed room just as much as it does for blasting through headphones on your own.
Right away, what stands out is how high the vocals sit in the mix. That choice gives the track real immediacy, letting every word land with weight rather than getting buried under the instrumentation. There's a lot of instrumentation to potentially get buried under too, this is a genuinely great mix of guitars, rhythm, and melody, all working together with real intensity. If this track is any indication, which we know it is, the EP is shaping up to explore that disorder honestly. We’re primed for more layered guitars, those stuck in your melodies, and plenty of noise. They’ve drawn comparisons to bands like Silversun Pickups or Jimmy Eat World, yet believe us, they’re still 100% doing their own thing and carving out a signature sound.
Even better, this song and upcoming record were record and releasing completely independently. When you’re doing it on your terms, that’s when you can be the best version of yourselves and the song speaks to that completely.
