Victorian Death Photos engineer an all new sound on debut EP, "The Basement Tapes"

Debuting their first collection of songs on an EP titled The Basement Tapes, Victorian Death Photos are making a massive statement for themselves. Do yourselves a favor and read along with us for our full featured review, in addition to a background on the artists.

Released officially on February 23rd, 2021, Victorian Death Tapes debut EP The Basement Tapes is a collection of 3 songs that have positively taken us by hold. This anonymous duo based out of Houston, Texas are crafting synth heavy, distorted, and haunted music that is taking the term alternative music to a whole new level. However you’d like to describe it personally, we are loving it.

If you like it, which you absolutely will, expect more coming on March 23rd when a reimagined version of “Promise” will be seeing its light of day with special touches from Tennessee producer, Enki. We haven’t heard it quite yet, but we’ll for sure have an eye out as its sure to be something special as expected.

As for The Basement Tapes, truly all we needed to hear was the opener “Daylight” to consider ourselves fans. Being massive synth lovers ourselves, cranking the volume to 10 and sitting back letting the music flow through our bodies was certainly the way to go. Paired with the ethereal and heavenly vocals, the instrumental comes together so perfectly to create something that is not only unique, but sure to catch some ears on first listen.

While the duo continues to slave away in the studio working on more tunes for us to enjoy, we’ll happily be over enjoying every moment of this EP. Totalling just 10 minutes in overall run time, it truly does transport you to another universe through sound. Not enough positive things can be said about this. It really does deserve all the praise, mainly for the fact that its playing with experimentation that doesn’t take it to a place that’s way too out there. It’s still approachable as a general music fan, but diverse enough to keep its memorability.

Normally we like to compare the sound of the music we review to other more notable artists or bands, however we confidently feel that it stands in a league of its own. Mixing up genres effortlessly, but injecting its own signature sound is what it’s doing best. We can go ahead and highly suggest you give it a listen, but stay tuned as well, because there’s more on the way.
