L'Impératrice Talk Touring Life at SF's Portola Music Festival

Taking the time out of their busy schedule, we got the extra special opportunity to catch up with all the members of L'Impératrice at the inaugural Portola Music Festival in San Francisco, California. Don’t miss out on a fantastic conversation.

If for some reason you’re out of the loop on L'Impératrice, they’ve quickly risen the ranks as one of our favorite bands of the last 10 years. Consistently putting together an eclectic mix of indie pop, synth pop, and glimmers of disco and funk, you can singlehandedly expect a wild immersion of so many styles within their sound. We’d recommend everyone out there start off with a listen to Tako Tsubo as a perfect introduction, but to not stop there.

Currently based out of Paris, France but always on tour to another festival or isolated show date for themselves, they’re a can’t miss act no matter the circumstance. During our incredibly short podcast episode with the band, we spoke specifically about the differences between their festival and concert show, what it’s like to tour around the world, and even got a sincere opening message for those who are going to discover them for the first time. Getting an insight into their world of constantly moving and these main differences was surely eye opening, but not nearly as impressive as their set that we witnessed earlier in the day.

Not two hours before speaking with the band, we saw the group throw down easily the biggest dance part of Portola by far. Fans were so excited to get to witness the greatness, but also a ton of people were just discovering them for the first time. Through their choreographed moves, the perfect transitions, and some of the most memorable bass lines in all of today’s music, it was an hour that we’ll simply remember for the rest of our lives.

At this point, we’ll be visiting Austin City Limits in the next couple of weeks and will surely be front and center for their set then. If you haven’t yet listened to the group’s music, please go ahead and check out all of those important links below to listen. Enjoy!
