Justin Hulsey delivers an awe-inspiring album, "A Play At Voices"

Officially released on October 29th, 2021, Justin Hulsey has just let loose an absolutely astounding new record, A Play At Voices. Read on for our glowing review of the record, as well as a background on this talented artist.

For this singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, it seems there’s no bound to the creativity he’s pulled off on his new record A Play At Voices. With help on the instrumentation and production side from Justin Glasco, this beast of a record was recorded in Los Angeles, California. Together, these two have put something ultimately memorable and genre-expansive. We can’t wait for everyone to get their ears on it immediately.

For fans of Radiohead, The National, Tom Waits, and so many more, this is certainly the type of sound and atmosphere that’s up your alley. To be completely honest though, any lover of music across the spectrum could pick something out on A Play At Voices that they enjoy. Experimenting so much in what’s humanly possible, this full length album achieves what so many don’t, and we think that’s the cohesiveness of the listen from start to finish. While all of the songs are completely unique in their own right, there’s a similar sound that carries throughout.

Of course it’s super easy to be astounded by all the complex layers being presented, however the guiding light for us was also the range that Justin Hulsey shows off with his vocals on this record. On songs like “Suddenly Sunshine” and “Castle in the Air”, there’s a deep passion and emotion that displays itself right at the forefront. While we’ll definitely have to go back for further listens to make connections through the lyricism, there’s enough happening sonically for us to gladly re-enter with open arms.

With seemingly infinite redeeming factors shown on the entirety of the album, there’s no possible way that we couldn’t highly recommend you give it a listen. We don’t want to give too much away obviously, but just know that this is a cinematic, suspenseful, and art-filled piece that we can confidently suggest you check out. Without a doubt, we know we’ll be digging into everything else that Justin Hulsey has put out in the past too.
