With a tour planned and on the way (tickets here!), we got the unique opportunity for a lengthy Q&A with the band’s own Garrett Nickelsen. After nearly two decades away from the album format that first defined them, The Format have reemerged not as a nostalgia act, but as a fully revitalized creative force. With the release of Boycott Heaven on January 23, 2026 via The Vanity Label, the duo of Nate Ruess and Sam Means have delivered a record that feels both rooted in their past and sharply attuned to the present. We can sincerely say it’s our album of the year and nothing else that gets shared this year will even come close.

When we first talked to Tom Morfitt-White in our interview recently, we instantly knew he was going to be an artist that would consistently impress. With his debut EP just released, titled "Love Me Now,”, he’s made a genuinely strong case for why he's already being talked about as a rising star. Released through the independent label White Light Records on September 4th, this project feels like a great snapshot of everything he's capable of, and it's exciting to think this is only the beginning!
There's something really powerful about a song built on the idea of honoring memory, and "Ramey Road" carries that weight with real thoughtfulness. Written by Jilly after visiting Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site with her students, this track was sparked by a moment on that hike when one of her indigenous students remarked that they could be walking on the bones of their ancestors.
On the surface this record might seem like a straightforward folk album, but once you really listen, we promise you’ll realize it’s so much more than that. Jake Sheppard's "Golly" leans fully into that sensibility. Blending elements country-rock with a distinctly freak folk edge, this record sits comfortably alongside artists like Devendra Banhart or David Berman as it carries that same lilting, candid, funny kind of heartsick energy that makes those artists so beloved. However, Jake 100% has his own thing going.
Rachel Chinouriri is peeling back another layer of her upcoming second album, and this one cuts especially close to the bone. Today the rising UK artist shared "Make Believe," a darkly shimmering, sensual new single that arrives as the second preview of I Think I Spoke Too Soon, out October 16 via Parlophone/Warner Records! Automatic have spent the last few years building one of the tightest, most confident live shows in the current wave of post-punk-adjacent rock, and their Saturday afternoon set on the Panhandle stage at Outside Lands was proof the trio's new record only sharpens that reputation further. Touring behind Is It Now?, Izzy Glaudini and Halle Saxon brought a set that balanced synth-driven cool with real physical urgency, and Golden Gate Park was fully locked in from the first note.
